Bacterial Vaginosis affects about 29% of women in the U.S. It is not a true infection but rather many researchers believe it is an overgrowth of atypical bacteria. The vagina likes to be on the acidic side and this is the job of lactobacillus the "good bacteria" that produces an acidic environment and prevents other "bad bacteria" from overgrowing.
